The Game
Progress updates will be put here.
No, Kovarust isn’t dead yet!
Basic rendering is more or less functional, save for occulsion and greedy meshing, but that's for a bit later. Right now the thing I'm procrastinating with is the design of how to implement entity & chunk loading.
In the meantime, here's a list of features I'm considering, grouped by their likelihood of making it into the base game (excluding the obvious, like, uh, rendering).
Literally the main selling-points
- Server-side LoD generation (far enough to render your mother)
- Gamepad input
- Split-screen multiplayer
- Fleshed-out content & progression even without 20 modpacks
- Expansive Tinkerable™ tools, weapons, & armour system
- Redstone & other technical blocks
- Massive modular dungeons & strongholds
- Cryptographic server-less account authentication
- Still somehow capture the Classic Minecraft feel
Definitely most likely
- Plugins support (client-only mods, server/world plugins, and patches for anything I missed)
- In-game proximity voice chat (opus ftw)
- Shadows, coloured lights, & other "fancy" graphics (but not too fancy)
- Simple server-side anticheat (if the player can't see it, don't send it)
- Multi-threaded worlds depending how far players are
Within possibility
- Native VR support
- Halflife-style auto-mod-downloading from servers (depending on implementation)
- Compatability with Minecraft/Minetest/OpenMiner servers (maybe a plugin that overrides networking?)
Nah yeah nah
- Eating dirt
- Attack cooldowns
- Herobrine
- Pandas, Phantoms, Boe Jiden and whatever other cringe new mobs came out after 1.19.84
